Welcome to my page!

Hello, my name is Codie Anne, and I am a contemporary artist who likes to try my hand at everything. I identify as a fine artist, a crocheter, an actor, dancer, circus performer, and all-round creative mess. I convince myself that if I can think it, I can do it, despite never having tried it before or knowing where to begin. This has led me to be self-taught in most practices and developing skills in unorthodox ways. In 2023 I went viral online for crocheting on TikTok in a way that made people either amazed or appalled, dividing audiences, due to its unusual technique.

By developing skills as a fibre artist, I have expanded my reach in challenging the artworld on what should be considered “art” or “craft”. Learning to knit, crochet, cross stitch, and work with other fibre arts from a young age has allowed me to shape and develop my own craft when it comes to these practices now. By taking the skills taught to me by the generations of women before me in my family I am encouraging a modern twist to these traditional Arts. When crocheting with yarn I prefer to free hand the designs instead of following patterns to allow for the freedom and challenge that comes with experimentation. Often, I will use reference photos from other creations to decide what elements to incorporate into my own work. This can be high risk when working with yarn as the only way to fix a previous mistake or change the scale is to completely unravel the project.
